Doha:

The Qatar Olympic Academy concluded its third edition of the Olympic Culture Symposium in this year's calendar, which was held under the theme "Olympic Values and Volunteering in Sports Events", with the participation of nearly 70 learners from inside and outside Qatar through the zoom system.

The first lecture was presented by Professor Costantinos Goergades, Dean of the International Olympic Academy, and the second lecture was presented by Mr. Nasser Al-Maghesib, Director of Volunteer Strategy at the High Commission for Projects and Heritage.

Professor Costantinos presented the first lecture and reviewed several topics and topics related to the first part of the title of the symposium on Olympic values, where he spoke about the emergence of the old Olympic Games and then moved to the modern Olympic movement and Olympic values in the Olympic Games, which Pierre de Coubertin stressed where he aimed not only at excellence in performance but progress for educational ideas and values and human morals, while emphasizing the importance of equality and respect for others, these values extend to almost 3000 years of The history of the Olympic Games.

He also spoke of the importance of social responsibility, which came from the heart of the work of the International Olympic Committee and was codified in the basic principles of the Olympic Charter.

All activities in Olympic education programs are based on the three basic principles that we can find in the Olympic Charter and the basic principles of the Olympics: the Olympics are a philosophy of life and the Olympic Games aim to put sport at the service of the harmonious development of humanity, to promote a peaceful society concerned with the preservation of human dignity. In addition, exercise is a human right. Everyone must have the possibility to exercise, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit.

Mr. Nasser Al-Maghaysib spoke in a number of topics in the second lecture, which was discussing the second part of the title of the symposium, which is the culture of volunteering in sports events, the most important of these topics: the culture of volunteering and its importance to the individual, society and national and international institutions, and addressed the culture of volunteering as an Olympic value, and the importance of volunteering to stimulate sportsmanship, then moved to talk about strategies of volunteerism and its association with heritage, and then talked about the strategy of managing volunteers in major sporting events, as well as allocated the special and important focus of the singer For all those present at the symposium, the strategy of managing volunteers at the FIFA Qatar 2022 World Cup, how the volunteers were selected, what the foundations and standards required and what stages the volunteers went through in previous events hosted by the country to the World Cup.

In this context, it is worth mentioning that if the Qatari Olympic Academy announced in the calendar this year 2022 that four editions of the Olympic Culture Symposium will be held, a specific topic will be addressed at each symposium.

The academy organized the first edition of this season on February 7th with the system of distance learning, while the second edition was on the sidelines of the Doha International Book Fair as part of the cultural events accompanying the exhibition, where the Qatari Olympic Academy participated for the third time in a row in the exhibition.

The fourth and final edition of this year's calendar will be held on October 4th, to spread Olympic and sports culture among community members, one of the most important objectives of the Qatar Olympic Academy.
